Being the first baby born in a new hospital in Cebu was good enough a reason to be a grantee of a full scholarship from its owner.
Such was given to Michael Augusto Ediong, who was born at 4:55 p.m. on June 16, 2015 at the University of Cebu Medical Center (UCMed), an affiliate of the University of Cebu (UC).
Michael was given a full scholarship from kindergarten to medical school at the UCMed.
According to a statement sent to The Manila Times, the child was named after UC president and lawyer Augusto W. Go, not only because Michael Augusto was the first born at the medical facility but also because the boy’s maternal grandparents met as working students back in the day when UC was named Cebu Central Colleges or CCC.
The baby’s grandmother, Helen, has worked with UC for the past 38 years while his mother, Janine, is a nurse working at UCMed.
“My heart responds to those who are humble, loyal, unassuming, hardworking and committed,” said UCMed President and UC Chancellor Candice Gotianuy, Go’s daughter.
“Welcome to the world, Michael. May you make the most of what the world offers you,” she added.
The UCMed is a P2-billion facility located in Barangay Subangdaku in Mandaue City with 300 beds and 50 suites.
The UC College of Law gives a brand new car to its graduates who top the Bar examinations.
