CEBU CITY: Cebuano cyclist Jun Duron will compete in the men’s Master A overall title when the third and final leg of the 2016 Asian Mountainbike (MTB) Series unfolds on November 4 to 6 in Sarawak, Malaysia.
Duron of Rapidino Race Team left for Malaysia Thursday and will be chasing the coveted overall title in the men’s Master A cross-country Olympic (XCO) race.
Duron, the 31-year-old rider from Talisay City, Cebu, currently leads his division with 34 overall season points, just two points ahead of rival Kusnadi Adi of Indonesia.
“The season points are very close and anything can happen. I’m going to work hard to get that overall trophy,” Duron said.
The champion in every leg gets 20 season points, the second placer receives 18, while the third placer gets 16.
The fourth and fifth placers will get 14 and 12 points, respectively.
Duron finished second in the first leg last August in Sabah, Malaysia and nabbed third place in the second leg in Timor Leste last September.
“I had continued training for this series. Hopefully God will give me strength on race day so I can make it,” he said.
Duron said the XCO course in Malaysia will cover 3.8-kilometer per lap.
The total lap to be traversed will be announced at the venue.
