Cebuano Fajardo leads race for Best Player plum


DESPITE missing three games in the elimination round because of injury, Cebuano June Mar Fajardo accumulated enough statistical points (SP) to lead the race for the Best Player of the Conference plum in the on-going 39th Philippine Basketball Association Philippine Cup.

The 6’10 center Fajardo of Petron Blaze, that played in 11 out of 14 games garnered 40.4 SP to edge closest rival Japeth Aguilar of Ginebra in the race for the coveted honor won by fellow Petron player Arwind Santos last year.

Fajardo, 24, the top overall pick in 2012, ranked only 11th in scoring department with an average of 15.1, but he is currently the top rebounder in the conference posting 15.5 per game. He also notched an average of 1.5 assists and 2.5 blockshots per outings.

Ginebra’s 6’9 forward Aguilar has 38.8 SP on 18.9 points, 8.9 rebounds, 1.6 assists and 3.5 blocks averages a game in 14 matches.

Arwind Santos also of Petron and 7’0 Greg Slaughter of Ginebra both having 35.6 SP are sharing the third spot followed by Globalport’s Jay Washington with 34.1 and Talk ‘N Text’ Jayson Castro with 33.6.
