Fugitive businessman Cedric Lee and Simeon “Zimmer” Raz were arrested by operatives of the National Bureau of Investigation on Saturday in Oras, Eastern Samar.
Lee and Raz are two of the seven accused in the mauling and serious illegal detention of actor and television host Vhong Navarro.
Justice Secretary Leila De Lima told the ABS-CBN News Channel (ANC)that NBI agents closed in on the two suspects on Friday.
“As of Friday, we knew the general area. [They had become quite] mobile, they hopped from one area to another,” De Lima said.
With help from the local police, the NBI trackers finally caught up with the pair before noon yesterday in the vicinity of the Oras municipal hall.
De Lima directed the NBI to bring the two to Manila. Lee and Raz are expected to be detained at the NBI. “And then we will await the commitment order from the Taguig court,” which will say where they should be held, de Lima explained in a radio interview.
Lee was arrested for grave coercion and serious illegal detention, a non-bailable offense.
Arrest warrants for grave coercion were issued last week by the Taguig Metropolitan Trial Court for Lee, his sister Bernice, Deniece Cornejo, Raz, Sajed Fernandez Abuhijleh alias Jed Fernandez, Jose Paolo Calma and Ferdinand Guerrero.
