Rains did not dampen the enthusiasm and spirit of over 800 triathletes that included celebrities Kim Atienza, model and actor Victor Basa, and TV hosts Drew Arellano and Iya Villania at the highly successful TriUnited 2 at Playa Laiya Beach Club in San Juan Batangas.
Organized and presented by Bike King and Unilab Active Health (ULAH), the event had to forego the swim leg of the triathlon because of the inclement weather. This did not dampen the enthusiasm of over 800 participants all the same who took on the long distance and the sprint distance races.
The safety of the participants was the prime concern when the announcement was issued prior to the race by Unilab’s Alex Panlilio.
“We thank the triathletes for their cooperation. Overall, we are just happy that the race pushed through,” related the executive who also raced at Tri United 2.
While the physically fit celebrities who lead healthy and active lifestyle off cam finished strong at the duathlon, an Olongapo-based member of the national triathlon team, John Chicano, won as over all champion clocking in two hours, 29 minutes and 36 seconds.
Kim, Victor, Drew and Iya said they are looking forward to two more Tri United Triathlons scheduled this year on October 25 in Subic Bay and November 23 at Fontana Clark.
