All’s well that ends well as actors Baron Geisler and Kiko Matos’ much awaited fight on Saturday at the Universal Reality Combat Championship’s Fight Night ended in a draw and reconciliation.
While technically a sidelight of the competition, “Bigwasan 2016,” nonetheless drew celebrities to the Palace Pool Club, among them Solenn Heussaff, Tim Yap, Meryll Soriano, Alex Medina, Ramon Bautista and cager James Yap.
Geisler was the obvious audience favorite as cheers welcomed him when he set foot in the cage, while Matos received jeers. Similarly, Geisler got the upper hand during the first round but Matos made a comeback in the second.
Unfortunately, both actors tired soon after the two rounds, and the judges, fully aware they cannot go as far as professional fighters do, turned to the scorecards and called a unanimous draw at 19-19 each side.
Even before the announcement, the erstwhile enemies hugged each other, with Matos even sharing in post-fight interviews he told Geisler he “loves” him.
Surfed on the Rappler website, Geisler said, “Wala na, tanggal na tanggal na yung pride, tanggal na yung yabang. I believe that we both respect each other as actors, and as human beings. So congratulations, Kiko.”
Asked if they are ready to face each other again in a bar, with drinks in hands, where it all began, any time soon, the answer was positive from both ends, but with showbiz’ favorite bad boy saying he is getting help for his alcoholism and has sober ever since.
