Central bank opens anti-scam campaign in Iloilo City


ILOILO CITY: The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) opened its consumer protection campaign that features display panels showing various financial frauds and scams, how to detect them and tips to avoid them and key advisories. Lawyer Prudence Angelita Kasala, BSP financial consumer protection department director, said the “Alerto Ako (I am alert)” program will run from August 17 to 19 at the Activity Center of the Robinson’s Place in Iloilo City. The BSP identified the common types of frauds and scams, such as the text messaging informing winning in a raffle or game show, credit card and ATM skimming or the illegal copying of information from the magnetic strip of the credit card or ATM (Automated Teller Machine) through a skimming device and Ponzi or pyramiding scheme.
