‘Central Mindanao now relatively peaceful’

CAMP SIONGCO, Datu Odin Sinsuat, Maguindanao: Central Mindanao is now “relatively peaceful, ” Major General Edmundo Pangilinan, commanding general of the Army 6th Infantry Division said on Wednesday. He attributed the situation to the continuing peace process between the government and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) forces. He added that since 2012 when the peace negotiations were in full swing, they have not recorded any encounters between government troops and MILF forces. The encounter between government troops and armed groups that include the MILF in Mamasapano is the only break in the ceasefire.

  1. The BBL has addressed most if not all of the legitimate grievances of the Moros against the government. Therefore, any armed group especially new ones will have no reason or cause to fight the government. They will not succeed, because the people will not support them anymore;
