    TRUCK body builder Centro Manufacturing Corp. at the 5th Philippine International Motor Show unveiled its locally designed and mass-produced microbus body for the Mitsubishi L300 van.

    Called the L300 XV, the vehicle uses the L300’s longer FB Exceed chassis cab as its platform. Centro said it then designed and converted the model into a single-body, 17-seat microbus.

    Company president Raphael Juan said the L300 XV was conceptualized to fill in the vacuum created when the L300 Versa Van was phased out locally.

    “We saw the upsurge in the nationwide demand in the shuttle segment of the mass transport industry and realized that most of the reliable Japanese shuttle models only have 15 seats or less, yet have a price tag of over P1 million. Our answer is the L300 XV as it has 17 seats [and comes]at an introductory price of only P898,000,” Juan said.

    The executive noted that the L300 XV is the “perfect shuttle vehicle,” able to serve as a school bus, tourist coach and even as an ambulance.

    “Because of its bubble top design, there is added headroom while its thicker, four-inch seat cushion foam gives added comfort. Add to these its dual air-conditioner, and the L300 XV can transport more people in relatively better comfort.”

    Juan added that the vehicle is the ideal replacement for old UV Express shuttles and school buses more than 13 years old—or those whose franchises will not be renewed.

    Centro Manufacturing Corp. said it is the first and, at present, only ISO/TS 16949-certified truck body builder in the Philippines.
