Ceres La Salle FC will face Balestier Khalsa FC in the battle for third place on Saturday in the 2016 RHB Singapore Cup at the Jalan Besar Stadium.
The 2015 United Football League champion went on an unbeaten run in the preliminary rounds of the competition before crashing out in the semifinals.
In their last outing in the invitational club football tournament in the Southeast Asian region, Ceres lost 3-5 to Tampines Rovers FC to book a bronze-medal match against Balestier.
Ceres head coach Risto Vidakovic said that the game against Balestier would be tough, as they will be fielding a depleted roster.
“We have a problem for the Singapore Cup because we only have 12 available players so everybody would have to play. It’s not a bit of a problem for me because I can choose whom I can play,” he said.
Vidakovic expects the Singaporean to play hard to snatch the third place trophy.
“For sure, they will play hard like us. It will be difficult for us because we will play without many good players but we will fight for the third place, it’s the last game for us and I think we can show them that we can fight even if we do not play with the best line-up we have,” Vidakovic said.
Meanwhile, the Busmen had a good start with a 3-1 rout of the Young Lions FC to qualify for the quarterfinals.
They continued into the round-of-eight as they beat Brunei DPMM FC, 5-3, in the two-legged affair at the Jalan Besar Stadium last June.
