Last season’s United Football League runner-up Ceres Negros FC has been drawn in Group G of the 2017 Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Cup.
The club, which was previously known as Ceres La Salle FC, will be taking one of the two slots allocated to the Philippines in the annual continental club football championship for developing nations.
Ceres will go up against Malaysian Super League side Felda United FC together with two other clubs from Vietnam and Singapore.
The two other squads in the group of the Bacolod City powerhouse will be determined on a later date as originally seeded teams Hanoi T&T FC and Tampines Rovers FC be testing the waters in the qualification stage of the AFC Champions League in January.
If both teams get through the group stage of the top club football competition in Asia, Ceres Negros will have to tackle Vietnam’s SHB Da Nang FC of Singapore’s Geylang International FC.
The Busmen will be starting their campaign in the upcoming elimination round of the second-tier club football meet on March 2017.
Meanwhile, the other slot of the Philippines in the AFC Cup has been drawn to play in Group F together with the powerhouse clubs in the Southeast Asian region.
The team that will occupy the seat of the country in the said group will be revealed before the start of the stage as top choice Global FC will still play in the Champions League Qualifiers against Tampines on January 24.
