Ceres Negros FC tackles rival Global Cebu FC in the last elimination round game of the Philippines Football League (PFL) today at the Cebu City Sports Center.
The Yellow Busmen shoot for the pole position when they battle the People’s Club in the last Visayas Clasico of the regular season at 7 p.m.
Ceres Negros is sitting on the second spot with 57 points built on 17 wins and six draws against four losses, just a marker behind leading FC Meralco Manila.
The Busmen need at least a draw to steal the top seed through a superior goal difference over the Sparks.
Global Cebu, meanwhile, is on the fourth spot with 44 points on a 12-8-7 win-draw-loss record.
The result of the match will determine the final positioning of the clubs in the Finals Series.
Should Ceres end up atop the standings, a Visayas Clasico bout will happen in the semifinals while a Metro Manila Derby pitting Meralco Manila and Kaya FC-Makati will happen in the other pairing.
But if Global gets the maximum points, it will stay as the fourth seed and will collide with Meralco while Ceres will meet Kaya in the playoffs.
Another scenario that will affect the playoff picture, though unlikely to happen, is Global winning with a 10-goal margin. Should this occur, Global will surpass Kaya on the third spot, paving the way for a Visayas Clasico and a Manila Derby in the semifinals.
Ceres and Global split their first two encounters in the preliminary round before the former won in their last meeting.
The Negrenses escaped with a 1-0 win in the first Clasico then the Cebuanos scored a 1-0 victory as well. Ceres prevailed with the same scoreline in their latest tussle.
