Centro Escolar University (CEU) Scorpions eye to sweep the elimination round as they face Olivarez College (OC) Sea Lions in the Universities and Colleges Basketball League (UCBL) inaugural season on Monday at the Olivarez Sports Center in Parañaque City.
“No major adjustment was implemented. I just told my boys to stick on our system and treat every game as a knock out game for us to improve individually and as team. I also told them to just enjoy each game and give their best effort,” said CEU head coach Yong Garcia in a text message on Sunday.
Banking on their perimeter shooting, the CEU Scorpions upset the Bulacan State University (BulSU) Gold Gears on Thursday, 83-74
CEU tallied 35 points from the perimeter area, sinking nine treys out of 33 attempts, against BulSU’s 14. But the BulSU Gold Gears took advantage inside the paint area with 46 markers against CEU’s 40.
The Scorpions capitalized on BulSU’s 22 turnovers to score 16 points.
Orlan Wamar topscored for CEU with 11 markers, while Ebuka Umeanozie had a double-double outing of 10 points and 11 rebounds.
Dominick Fajardo paced BulSU with 21 markers and 13 boards, followed by Kenneth Reyes with 17 points. Jan Jauco added 10 markers and 15 boards.
The CEU Scorpions remained at the top spot, holding a stainless 11-0 win-loss card, while the Olivarez Sea Lions landed at third spot with a 7-4 record.
Technological Institute of the Philippines (TIP) Engineers handed the fourth loss to Olivarez Sea Lions on Thursday, 79-74.
Roldan Pinas and Harley Diego paced TIP with 14 and 13 points, respectively. Ikee Akpuru added 11 markers and 11 boards, followed by John Enriquez with 10 points.
Richard Sing led Olivarez with 16 markers, while Lordy Geronimo and Richmon Sunga combined for 22 points.
The clash between the CEU Scorpions and Olivarez Sea Lions will start at 12nn, while the TIP Engineers will face the Diliman College (DC) Blue Dragons at 2 p.m.
