LRT-1 STARTS OPERATIONS EARLIER
THE NEWLY formed Inter-Agency Council for Traffic (I-ACT) will implement traffic scheme changes on Epifanio de los Santos Avenue (EDSA) beginning 5:00 a.m. on Monday.
In an advisory issued on Sunday, the I-ACT said the traffic scheme changes in EDSA would be as follows:
• closure of southbound U-Turn slots near the Ayala Trinoma mall after West Avenue toward SM City;
• closure and removal of counter-flow at the Rockwell Flyover from Rockwell Center to EDSA; and
• one way at North Road from EDSA.
“We are appealing to all motorists who will be affected by said changes to bear with us as we effect said traffic plan to address the traffic problem of EDSA,” the I-ACT said.
The I-ACT is composed of the Philippine National Police-Highway Patrol Group, Metropolitan Manila Development Authority, the Land Transportation Office and the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board.
Earlier LRT opening hours
Also on Monday, operations at Light Rail Transit Line 1 (LRT-1) will start earlier.
In an advisory posted on LRT-1’s official Twitter account on Sunday, it said train trips will start at 4:30 a.m. Monday to Friday.
The line’s operations will start at 5:00 a.m. on Saturdays, Sundays and official holidays.
The last train trip from the Baclaran Station in Pasay will be at 10:00 p.m. on weekdays and at 9:30 p.m. on weekends and holidays.
From Roosevelt Station in Quezon City, the last train trip will be at 10:15 p.m. on weekdays and at 9:50 p.m. on weekends and holidays.
The LRT-1’s longer operating hours is a continuation of the test run implemented last July 10 to determine if the move will gain interest from the public, the Light Rail Manila Corp. (LRMC) said.
The LRMC said it would conduct a detailed study to make the LRT-1’s extended operating hours permanent, if the move gains interest among commuters.
