Chapman move to LA on hold amid domestic violence probe

LOS ANGELES: Aroldis Chapman’s proposed move to the Los Angeles Dodgers from the Cincinnati Reds has been put on hold after the emergence of domestic violence allegations involving the All-Star pitcher, authorities said on Tuesday (Wednesday in Manila). Although police in Florida said Chapman would not face charges because of insufficient evidence, absence of injuries and no co-operating witnesses, Major League Baseball officials said an investigation had begun. Reports said Chapman’s girlfriend Cristina Barnea had told police the player had choked her and pushed her against a wall while also firing several rounds from a handgun.
