International singer Charice Pempengco, who caught international attention after TV host Oprah Winfrey and composer David Foster took her under their wing, has just changed her name to Jake Zyrus.
Dubbed “The Most Talented Girl in The World,” the openly gay singer made the announcement on Instagram on Sunday with a simple “Thank You” digital card using the handle jakezyrusmusic and accompanied with a comment. It read, “From the bottom of my heart, thank you for the love and respect. I love you back and I’m sending peace to everyone.” The post garnered 1,012 likes with 0 comments.
On Tuesday, as @jakezyrus, she posted on Twitter, “My first tweet as Jake. Overwhelmed. Saw all your love comments and I’m so happy. Finally. I love you, everyone and see you soon.” Timed at 8:52 a.m., it garnered 573 Likes and 105 Retweets. She immediately followed it up after two minutes, “I won’t let anyone ruin this moment. I won’t let anyone ruin my happiness. Thank you to all the beautiful write ups about me.”
All her posts on Instagram as Charice have been deleted but the celebrity maintained the number of her followers at 130,000. She did the same thing on Twitter, where her 926,000 followers remain.
Later in the day, Jake Zyrus was trending on Twitter. She posted, “Nakakakilig pala talaga. I’m so happy. Thank you all. I love you. No, really. I love you.”
Charice came out in 2013 and shed her long hair and girly clothes for manly get ups. She also revealed aspects of her troubled relationship with her mother Raquel, and her romance with Alyssa Quijano, whom her mother allegedly feared dreaded. Charice and Quijano broke up in April reportedly due to financial disagreements.
