THE Commission on Higher Education is considering requiring all students in colleges and universities to undergo drug testing in a bid to ensure that the youth are not into illegal drugs.
In an interview with The Manila Times, Executive Director Julito Vitriolo said the drug test will be done each time a student enrolls.
“Yes, we are studying that possibility,” he said, adding that officials expect some groups to oppose a mandatory drug test.
The CHED official stressed that the plan is still being discussed and that consultations will be held with the affected sectors, especially the parents and students.
Vitriolo said if the policy is adopted, it will not be the first time that students are mandated to take a drug test.
He said the Department of Education occasionally conducts random drug tests in public schools.
