CHED grants P5,000 aid to students in Yolanda-hit areas


The Commission on Higher Education (CHED) on Tuesday announced the grant of a one-time P5,000 cash assistance to college students affected by Supertyphoon Yolanda. CHED Commissioner Prospero de Vera 3rd, said in a media conference in Malacañang, that there is “residual money” of about P540 million “from Yolanda funds that were not utilized in 2016.” He said public and private educational institutions have to verify the student applicants who can avail the cash assistance. Meanwhile, De Vera said the CHED would also issue an advisory to all universities to “immediately accept” transferee students from Marawi. He said the CHED en banc approved the advisory to give students from Marawi an opportunity to enrol in other schools even without complete records.
