CHEVROLET Phils. at the recent Manila International Auto Show flaunted its turbocharged, diesel-powered models—the Trailblazer SUV, Colorado pickup and Spin utility vehicle—with Captain America adding some star power to the display.

A partner to the latest Marvel franchise, Chevrolet customized a Colorado with Captain America decals that, according to the carmaker, shows the truck’s “dependable power, rock-solid performance, durability and heroism.” A 2014 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1, which appeared as the character Bumblebee in the Transformers franchise, was displayed alongside the Captain America Colorado.

“Chevrolet is showcasing our lineup of CRDi, turbocharged, diesel-powered automobiles to the public because we believe our products offer solutions to the current commuting concerns of the modern Filipino,” said Lyn Buena, Chevrolet Phils.’ senior vice president and director for marketing and customer services.

The latest Colorado and Trailblazer are equipped with Chevrolet’s newly improved Duramax diesel engine, which boasts top marks in power and torque ratings in its class. The 2.8-liter mill found in both models are turbocharged, diesel-burning and fed by common rail direct injection. It now produces 11 percent more power at 200hp and 6 percent more torque at 500Nm while consuming 4.3 percent less fuel, Chevrolet said.

It noted the Trailblazer 4×2 AT variant is the 2013-2014 SUV of the Year in the Philippines and is presently Chevrolet’s best-selling model in the country.

Rounding off the trio of what Chevrolet Phils. called its “Turbo-Diesel Powerhouse Team” is the seven-seat Spin. Considered to be the first in the compact utility vehicle segment to offer a 1.3-liter turbocharged diesel engine, the Spin is economical in fuel but is powerful. The model’s diesel variant, which comes in LS and LTZ trims, produces 75hp at 4,000rpm and 190Nm of torque at 1,750rpm while returning a fuel consumption of up to 23 km/l (based on tests made by the Automobile Association Phils.).

“The innovations made in our turbocharged diesel engines allow their users to enjoy Chevrolet’s latest technology with the added benefit of fuel efficiency,” Buena said.
