• Chicano, Mangrobang top PNG triathlon

    AS expected members of the national pool dominated the triathlon event on Sunday in the 2013 Philippine Olympic Committee-Philippine Sports Commission (POC-PSC) National Games at the Philsports Complex in Pasig City.

    The 22-year-old John Chicano posted a total of 1:00:56 in the swim-bike-run competition to rule the men’s over 20-year-old category. Jonard Saim finished second in 1:02:34 and Nikko Huelgas placed third with a clocking of 1:03:15.

    Kim Mangrobang also of the national team ruled the distaff side with a total time of 1:13:34 in both swim-bike-run event. She was followed by teammate Mirasol Abad who registered 1:14:42 and Bic Ferreria for third in 1:28:23.

    In powerlifting at the Marikina Sports Complex, Leticia Mangcao of Zest Power gym won the gold in the women’s open 47-kgs. class with a total lift of 277.5-kgs. Stephanie Wong of CrossFit settled for second with 237.5-kgs. and Victoria Calma of Gayanes Gorillas at third with similar 237.5-kgs.

    Leslie Evangelista of University of the Philippines grabbed the gold in the women’s 52-kgs. with 302.5-kgs. followed by Rose Guese with 247.5-kgs. and Joanna Lao of Crossfit with 235-kgs.

    Anita Koykka of Zest Power gym ruled the 57 to 84-kgs. category with 350-kgs. which relegated Myra Digma of University of the East to second with a total raise of 295 and Leonora Oca also of Zest Power gym for the bronze with 230-kgs.

    Baseball eliminations also showed Ateneo de Manila crushing University of the East, 12-5, Illam trouncing Titans, 19-3 and Philippine Air Force bouncing back with a 13-2 thrashing off Angeles University Foundation.

    In canoe-kayak and dragon boat at the Manila Bay, Dany Funelas secured another gold in canoe-kayak after topping the men’s C1 200-m finals, while Philippine Navy won both dragon boat’s men’s 200-m in 57:00 minutes and mixed 200-m in 48:81, while Roselyn Esguerra dominated touring kayak’s women’s 200-m in 1:18.75, Hermia Macaranas topped men’s touring kayak 200-m in 53:49, Alex Generalo in the men’s kayak 200-m in 49:31 and Dragon Flies in dragon boat women’s 200-m in 1:03.41. at the Manila Bay.
