ZAMBOANGA CITY: The Philippine Army said an 11-year old boy, who claimed to be a member of the communist rebel group New People’s Army, has surrendered in Davao del Norte’s Asuncion town in Mindanao. Capt. Alberto Caber, a spokesman for the Eastern Mindanao Command, said the boy’ surrender to the 60th Infantry Battalion in Camansa village was made possible by the village chieftain Elizabeth Abad. He said the boy—a native of Mati City in Davao Oriental province – told soldiers he laid mines for the NPA during his six years stay with the rebel group and he had been in six armed clashes with security forces in the provinces of Davao del Norte and Davao del Sur.
