Chiz poorest senator, Villar still the richest

THE parents of actress Heart Evangelista now have more reason to dislike their daughter’s boyfriend.

Sen. Francis “Chiz” Escudero is the poorest of the 23 members of the Senate based on his statement of assets, liabilities and net worth (SALN).

Outgoing Sen. Manny Villar remained the richest senator with a total net worth of P1.45 billion.

Based on the copy of his SALN, Escudero’s current net worth is P4.017 million compared, down from the P9.8 million in 2011.

He listed two condominium units in Quezon City with current fair market values of P1.6 million and P1.2 million, respectively. The two units are under the names of his two children.

Escudero’s other assets include cash amounting to P900,000, jewelry amounting to P920,000; three vehicles (1996 Range Rover, 1969 BMW, 1996 Toyota Land Cruiser) worth more than P1.9 million and partnership interest amounting to P213,441.29. He also included P520,000 cash which he gave to his children.

Trillanes, who held the poorest senator tittle for several years, surpassed Escudero after
increasing his net worth to P4.4 million from P3.8 million in 2011.

Evangelista’s parents Cecile and Rey Ongpauco, have raised their objection over their daughter’s relationship with Escudero citing several reasons including Escudero’s financial standing. They also blamed Escudero for the growing tension within their family.

Also among the top 10 richest senators were Ralph Recto (P468.47 million), Ferdinand Marcos Jr. (P437.23 million), Jose “Jinggoy” Estrada (P193.58 million), Ramon Revilla Jr. (P169.14 million), Edgardo Angara (P159.09 million), Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile (P118.63 million), Serge Osmena (P111.78 million), Miriam Defensor-Santiago (P77.69 milion) and Pia Cayetano (P72.96 million).

Senators Vicente Sotto 3rd had a net worth of P62.22 million, Franklin Drilon, P51.74 million, Loren Legarda, P45.96 million, Teofisto Guingona 3rd, P43.50 million, Panfilo Lacson, P28.86 million, Lito Lapid, P26 million, Alan Peter Cayetano, P23.30 million, Gregorio Honasan, P21.08 million, Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel 3rd, P16.99 million,
Francis Pangilinan, P14.37 million and Joker Arroyo, P11.05 million.
