ON Day 54 of Freego’s #SuperShapeMe Fitness Challenge, the 10 male and 10 female contestants of the 60-day health and fitness competition organized for the second year by the sexy denim brand, took to a grueling 10-station circuit training routine with such strength, form, and confidence.
Sporting colorful attire and brimming with excitement when they gathered recently at the Sparta Gym on Pioneer Street, Mandaluyong City, the 20 contestants, who each brought a workout buddy that afternoon, started with a series of active stretches and heart rate-elevating warm-ups led by CrossFit MNL coach Matt Makalintal.
Professional basketball player Chris Tiu, who designed the #SuperShapeMe Fitness Challenge workouts this year, was on hand to cheer contestants on, as was restaurateur and The Fat Kid Inside’s Erwan Heussaff, who reprises his role as nutrition expert.
Both Tiu and Heussaff personally monitored competitors’ progress through daily food diaries, selfies after each workout, and interactive group Viber “confessions.”
For the Big Workout, participants performed three rounds of nine exercises that combined what they learned weeks before from the gym, CrossFit sessions, and the track oval. Squat jumps, kettle bells, shoulder presses, low rows, planking, shuttle runs, box jumps, burpees, and sit-ups were executed for 45 seconds each, with a 15-second break in between stations.
Potassium-rich bananas and cool bottles of water recharged them enough for a spirited group shot followed by a surprise giveaway—specially designed “60” T-shirts to commemorate their life-changing journey to health and fitness.
Freego’s #SuperShapeMe Fitness Challenge culminated on November 21 with a grand event announcing the winning male and female contestant who will each take home a trip to Palawan for two plus the brand’s entire Body Circuit and Super Shaper collections.
Chosen from over 1,000 hopefuls who sent in their applications during a nationwide search in August are contestants Vince Lim, Alex Go, Jethro David, Josh Oblipias, Niel Ordiales, Cy Ortega, Mik Primacio, Philip Cruz, Ian Alaba, Migo Salvador, Julie Pineda, Maryl Robleza, Mon Manganti, KV Catena, Xis Pingol, Jessika Aranas, Shella Decena, Judy Ortega, Janssyll Dellosa, and Nonila Cruz.
Jo Marie Garcia, last year’s winner, and 2014 finalists Ana Lim and Abelle Orbeta also participated in the Big Workout.
