Christmas shoppers warned VS toxic toys

THE ENVIRONMENTAL watchdog EcoWaste Coalition on Friday warned consumers against buying toxic and dangerous toys in the market by coming up with an eight-point “Santa’s Guide for Safe Toys.” Thony Dizon, chemical safety campaigner, said safe toys must be age-appropriate, well-made, injury-free and duly labeled and registered; must have no small parts, no strings shorter than 12 inches and no lead paint coating. Finally, it must not be made of polyvinyl chloride (PVC) plastic. By following “Santa’s shopping tips,” children will be safer from playthings that may result in chemical poisoning, choking, laceration, poking, strangulation and other safety hazards, the EcoWaste Coalition said.
