Church group to help rehab Kalinga drug users

TABUK CITY, Kalinga: A group of pastors from various denominations formed a counselling group—“Shalom Kalinga”—to help drug users who have surrendered to the police. Pastor Eduardo Dauz said they welcome other professional volunteers particularly psychologists, psychiatrists and lawyers who have the expertise in dealing with drug problems. The Kalinga Police Provincial Office reported 1,003 illegal drug users who surrendered as of August 8. Gov. Jocel Baac earlier assured that the provincial government can offer reasonable assistance to users willing to reform and become productive citizens. The authorities also urge marijuana planters in Mount Chumanchill here to surrender and avail of alternative livelihoods in farming.
