• CIDG arrest “Ipit Taxi” gang members

The Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) has arrested two suspects involved in a series of “ipit-taxi” robbery incidents in Metro Manila, CIDG chief Director Benjamin Magalong said on Tuesday.
Magalong, identified the suspects as brothers Ildefonso and Eduardo Floreto, who were nabbed in the vicinity of Phase 4, Bagong Silang, Caloocan City after one of the victims, a certain Jan Vernice Sering sought the assistance of the CIDG last August 29.
According to Magalong the culprits robbed Sering, then stabbed and dumped her in an abandoned area in Payatas, Quezon City.
Magalong said detectives of the CIDG conducted simultaneous surveillance operations in the area in Caloocan City where the suspects were reportedly seen.
The CIDG Chief said that the three-day investigation resulted in the arrest of the Floreto brothers, and the confiscation of a caliber .38 homemade revolver with five ammunition and a fragmentation grenade.
The modus operandi of the “Ipit-taxi” gang is to victimize a passenger of a taxi with the collusion of the driver. Once a victim rides the suspect’s cab, the driver would then go to a pre-arranged location where other members of their group awaits, and then enter the taxi to divest the passenger of his/her belongings.
Magalong said the suspects are now under the custody of the CIDG and are facing criminal charges for violation of RA 8294, as amended by RA 1059.
He added the cases for violation of Serious Illegal Detention and Robbery with Serious Physical Injuries are still under investigation and pending the issuance of an official affidavit complaint from victim Sering. PNA
