OPERTIVES of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) have arrested eight members of the Acetylene gang dawn on Tuesday while tunneling their way into a pawnshop in a sub-urban village in Quezon City.
Senior Supt. Roberto Fajardo, CIDG-National Capital Region (NCR) chief, said the eight suspects were arrested by their operatives following a two-day stake-out of the group’s targeted pawnshop.
Fajardo identified the arrested suspects as Ortiz Diego, 48; Eric Angway, 45; Arthur Panes, 26; Clarence Latip, 38; Tarex Lagro, 27; Ruben Langbao, 34; Elmo Patleb 35 and a female identified as Cecil Umbay, 28 years old. The eight were apprehended while digging their way-in to the Ochoa Realica Pawnshop at Villongco St., Barangay Commonwealth, Quezon City.
The CIDG official said the suspects, who are all natives of Benguet province, presented themselves as members of telecom company in renting an apartment just a several meters away from a three-storey building where the pawnshop was located.
“The gang is planning to rob the Ochoa Realica Pawnshop and they were arrested while in the act of tunneling from their rented apartment to the building where the pawnshop is,” Fajardo said.
The CIDG official said seized from the suspects’ possession were an acetylene tanks, digging tools and they were turned over to the Quezon City Police District for filing of appropriate charges. ANTHONY VARGAS
