CIDG member falls in Tacloban drug bust


A member of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) in Eastern Visayas was arrested in a buy-bust operation conducted in a village in Tacloban City, Leyte.

Arrested was Police Officer (PO) 3 Dennis Torrefiel, assigned at the RCIDG U-8 in Samar.

He did not resist when members of the City Anti-illegal Drugs Special Task Group (CAIDSTOG) and CIDG operatives swooped into his suspected den in Barangay 64 Bliss, Sagkahan on Sunday.

CAIDSTOG chief Chief Insp. Steve Villalote said also nabbed were Torrefiel’s cohorts— Nolasco Balintong, Romeo Molo, Ronaldo Cabantac and Emilio Mendanio.

Recovered from the possession of Torrefiel was the P500 marked money, 32 sachets of methamphetamine hydrochloride (shabu), his 9mm pistol with eight live ammunition and two units cellular phone.

The police said that they have been following the activities of the policemen whose arrested cohorts also yielded three sachets of shabu during the body search.

Villalote said Torrefiel has been under surveillance for his involvement in illegal activities.

Meanwhile, the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) facilitated the surrender of two alleged drug suspects listed as number one and three in the order of battle of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) Silay City in Negros Occidental.

AFP Chief of Staff, Gen. Ricardo Visaya, said convinced to turn in were Alain Gamboa, tagged as No. 1 drug lord, and Aldrin Orquia Dejelo, No. 3 of Barangay Mambulac, Silay City.

The duo yielded about four kilograms ofshabu with an estimated street value of P8 million.

Dejelo also surrendered a hand grenade, a .45-caliber pistol, a .-38 caliber pistol, various ammunitions, and sachets ofshabu.
