Cignal sets out for a repeat of its straight-set win over PLDT Home Ultera in the semis as it guns for the first finals berth in the Spikers’ Turf Season 1 Reinforced Conference at The Arena in San Juan City today.
The HD Spikers finished tied for first with Air Force at 4-1 at the close of the single round elims but settled for the No. 2 seeding after the tiebreak for a Final Four clash with No. 3 Home Ultera, which ended up with a 3-2 slate.
Cignal and Home Ultera face off at 1 p.m. with the HD Spikers enjoying a twice-to-beat advantage.
Air Force, meanwhile, will meet the winner of the Navy-Instituto Estetico Manila, which dispute the last semis seat at presstime. The Airmen also need to win once to advance to the best-of-three finals of the season-ending conference of the pioneering men’s volley league presented by PLDT Home Ultera and backed by Mikasa.
Cignal swept Home Ultera, 25-21, 25-21, 25-19, in their elims duel last Oct. 11 but the Ultra Fast Hitters will be going all out for a payback and hope to stay in the hunt for the championship.
Lorenzo Capate Jr. and Edmar Bonono are tipped to spearhead Cignal’s bid for a repeat while Ultera will pin its hopes on the likes of the league’s leading scorer Mark Alfafara, James Peca-A, Peter Torres and Ron Galang to force a decider.
Games are aired on weekdays on PTV-4 starting at 4 p.m. and Saturdays at 9:15 p.m., according to the organizing Sports Vision.
