While seeking to protect Filipinos from dengue-causing mosquitoes the natural way, beauty label Human Nature also thought of uplifting farming communities nationwide.
“With every Human Nature Bug Shield purchase, you’re helping protect your family from mosquito-borne diseases and harmful chemicals. More importantly, you also help citronella farming communities,” enthused Anna Meloto-Wilk, co-founder and president of Gandang Kalikasan Inc., the company behind Human Nature.
Free from DEET (N,N-Diethyl-meta-toluamide), an oil originally used for pesticides, the Human Nature Bug Shield is 100-percent natural with citronella as its active ingredient. It comes in two variants, moisturizing oil and non-sticky lotion. Without artificial chemicals, dermatologists attest that the products are non-irritating and safe.
Besides producing eco-friendly products, Human Nature is also known to help sustain livelihood of marginalized Filipinos. The same is true with the Bug Shield Oil and Lotion as profits go to the brand’s partner farming communities.
Since 2010, Human Nature has raised almost P1 million for the citronella farming community in Barangay Kanapawan, Labo, Camarines Norte as part of the One Heart for One Community campaign. The proceeds were used to provide better facilities and services for the farmers and their families.
Encouraged by the gains of One Heart for One Community, the brand then teamed up with Gawad Kalinga to launch the Farmer’s Fund Drive last year. This collaboration helped fund the Citronella Agro-enterprise Development (CAD) Program in three barangays in Bukidnon.
As of today, Human Nature is already with six citronella farming communities: Libamanan, Camarines Sur; Kanapawan, Camarines Norte; Talisay, Negros Occidental; San Jose, Malaybalay; Impalutao, Bukidnon; and Imbayao, Malaybalay. To help improve citronella yields and expand production, more Oil Processing Facilities are being constructed in barangays Imbayao and Impalutao.
“You get safe and effective mosquito protection while helping improve the lives of the poor,” Meloto-Wilk ended.
