ILOILO CITY: The city council here on Tuesday slammed the Metro Iloilo Water District (MIWD) as complete failure in its mandate to provide residents with sufficient potable water. Councilor Joshua Alim said the water district must face a congressional inquiry to explain why it is badly remiss in its water service despite collection is fast and effective. The city council unanimously passed three resolutions defining the general sentiments of residents and water concessionaires here. The first resolution wants to declare MIWD a complete failure while the second resolution calls for an audit investigation by the Commission on Audit (COA) on income and expenditures of the water district. The third resolution gave authority to Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog to implement contingency measure that may include water rationing just to serve the needs of the people in this highly urbanized city.
