SAN Juan City (Metro Manila) Mayor Guia Gomez was absent on Tuesday at the debate organized by the Liga ng mga Brodkaster sa Pilipinas.
Gomez said she did not attend the forum titled “Debate ng mga Kandidato ng San Juan City, Matira ang Matibay” because she was informed late and she had previous engagements.
“While we welcome participation in such fora to put into higher level public discourse on what the candidates offer to our constituents and what the incumbent need to maintain after all these years, we could not have attended the Liga-sponsored forum at such short notice since we have had previous engagements we could not precipitously cancel at the last minute without losing face and trust in us,” she said in a statement.
“We regret we could not have attended the debate, despite the so-called ‘persistent and exigent calls and concerns of the people of San Juan City,’ without the necessary lead time,” the mayor added.
The Liga ng mga Brodkaster sa Pilipinas is headed by veteran broadcast journalist Rolly Gonzalo.
“We also have unblemished insider information that the organizer, the Liga ng mga Brodkaster, not the credible Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster sa Pilipinas, is suspended by the Securities and Exchange Commission,” Gomez said.
Gomez, who is seeking her third and final term as city mayor, is being challenged by Vice Mayor Francis Zamora, the son of their erstwhile political ally, House Minority leader Ronaldo Zamora.
