• City’s 1956 FA Cup hero Trautmann dies


    BERLIN, Berlin: Bert Trautmann, the Manchester City goalkeeper who played on in the 1956 FA Cup final despite having fractured his neck, died on Friday, the German Football Federation have confirmed. The 89-year-old, who stayed in England after being captured as a German paratrooper in World War II, passed away on Friday morning at his home, near Valencia, Spain, and had been voted the 1956 English player of the year following his Wembley heroics.
