Civil society raises alarm over illegal drugs


The Guimaras Concerned Citizens Group (GCCG), headed by Humabon Felixberto, disclosed on Wednesday that Guimaras now ranks number 2 in Western Visayas in terms of illegal drug activities. He added that the illegal drug trade remains unabated despite the anti-drugs operations by joint operatives of the police and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA). He called on Philippine National Police Chief Director General Ricardo Marquez to address the issue by looking into the strict enforcement of the two-year tour of key PNP personnel. He noted that the extended term of incumbent provincial commander Sr. Supt. Ricardo dela Paz, who was assigned to the province in July 2013. The group claimed that the extended tour of duty of Dela Paz was a political accommodation.
