Classes, work in city government offices in Manila suspended on Thursday

Work in city government offices in Manila will be suspended Thursday, the feast of the Black Nazarene.

There will also be no classes in all levels in the city Thursday, according to Executive Order No. 42 signed by Mayor Joseph Ejercito Estrada.

The order left it to the discretion of private offices and national government agencies in the city to suspend work on Thursday.

The order, however, added that “for the safety, welfare and convenience of their employees, the suspension of work in their office is recommended.”

Supreme Court Chief Justice Lourdes Sereno has declared a half-day work in all courts in Manila to give employees enough time to reach their homes early.

Traffic congestion is expected today all over Manila, particularly the areas near the Quiapo Church and Quirino Grandstand because of the Nazarene’s procession.
