MILITANT youth group Kabataan party-list wants the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) and the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) to study on the extent of the problems posed by the increasing amounts of electronic waste (e-waste) in the country. “During and right after the holiday season, e-waste mounts up to records high, with many Filipino consumers taking advantage of this season of sales and discounts to replace their old gadgets or upgrade to newer versions. The problem, however, is that many households and whole communities are not aware of the proper ways of handling e-waste as there is no clear national policy that pertains to this mounting problem,” Rep. Terry Ridon of Kabataan party-list said in a statement. The youth lawmaker also urged the DENR and the DOST to assist Congress in crafting a national policy on the proper handling, disposal, and recycling of e-waste.
