COAL REMAINS TOP EXPORT OF PORT OF ILOILO

ILOILO CITY: Unrefined coal from the Semirara Island in Northern Antique remains to be the top export of Western Visayas passing through the Port of Iloilo while raw sugar from Negros Occidental and some parts of the province of Iloilo came in second as a top export of the region passing through the Subport of Pulupandan. The National Economic Development Authority (NEDA) reported that the top export commodities garner $27.5 million for coal and $13.4 million for raw sugar. The NEDA report also showed other top exports from the region such as steel scrap earning $474,275, assorted frozen marine products with $281,046, and cut foliage earning $19,770.
