Operatives from the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) have successfully freed a “pawikan” (green turtle) who got snared in a fish trap off Palaui Island, Cagayan.
The release took place last Aug. 20, statements forwarded by PCG headquarters Saturday disclosed.
The “pawikan” was found by Jaime Yosores, 60, trapped in his “baklad” (fish trap) around 6:30 a.m. last Wednesday.
The fisherman immediately turned over his find to Coast Guard Sub-Station San Vicente which immediately undertook operations to release the animal back into sea.
The green turtle was estimated to be 43 centimeters in length, 37 centimeters wide and weighed 4.1 kilogram.
The “pawikan” was tagged before being released around 9:51 a.m. one nautical away from Palaui Island. PNA
