Coast Guard saves dying fisherman

Elements of the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) saved a fisherman from hypothermia after he fell from his motorboat a few meters off Cliffside Resort in Barangay Tawala, Panglao town in Bohol province, a report reaching PCG headquarters in Manila said on Thursday.

The Panglao Tourist Police said that one Josemo Dacuma, 25, of Dauis town, went missing after he sailed into the open waters despite huge waves spawned by the southwest monsoon at about 7 p.m. on Saturday.

Cliffside Resort beach patrol personnel spotted Dacuma while he was trying to secure his boat from the big waves. The personnel told the police that they tried to help the man but could not go near him because of the big waves.

They instead called Coast Guard detachment in Panglao for assistance.

Dacuma was found lying unconscious and chilling at the shoreline, near the said resort.
