Cold weather hits displaced persons

As temperatures plummet across Iraq amid a steadily advancing cold season, humanitarian resources are urgently required in order to satisfy the needs of over 1 million internally displaced persons scattered across the country, a senior United Nations official in Iraq warned on Wednesday. “Warm winter clothes and shoes for a minimum of 450,000 people, including 225,000 children are urgently needed,” said Jacqueline Badcock, the deputy special representative of the UN Secretary-General for Iraq.
