• Colonia sets new weightlifting record

NESTOR Colonia of Zamboanga set a new weightlifting record in the 2014 Philippine Sports Commission-Philippine Olympic Committee (PSC-POC) National Games at the Marikina Riverbanks in Marikina City.

Colonia, a double gold medalist in the World Junior Championship in 2013, posted 271-kilogram (118-kilogram snatch and 153-kilogram clean and jerk) to break the old National Games record of 264-kilogram.

Weightlifting national coach Alfonsito Aldanete said that Colonia’s feat is good enough for a bronze medal finish in the Asian Games, which will be held on September 19 to October 4 in Incheon, South Korea.

In Greco-Roman wrestling also at the Marikina Riverbanks, the winners of the gold medals were Roxel Jandog of Taytay, Rizal (75-kilogram event), Gregie Jandog of the Philippine Air Force (66-kilogram), Maxwell Francisco Jr. also of Taytay (71-kilogram), Mario Gacuma Jr. of Zamboanga (54-kilogram), Margarito Angana also of Zamboanga (59-kilogram) and Michael Vijay Cater of Taytay (50-kilogram).
