Comelec nullifies RTC’s rulings against unseated Paniqui mayor

THE Commission on Elections (Comelec) has granted the petition filed by unseated Paniqui Mayor Miguel Rivilla to nullify the order issued by Regional Trial Court (RTC) Judge Agapito Laoagan annulling 70 percent of his votes during the 2013 local elections against Nationalist People’s Coalition mayoralty candidate Rommel David. Presiding Commissioner Lucenito Tagle said the Comelec First Division has granted the petition of Rivilla after they found that Laoagan committed “grave abuse of discretion” when the judge, assigned temporarily to assist Paniqui RTC Judge Serafin Cruz, ruled in favor of David.
