THE Commission on Elections (Comelec) has proclaimed 95 percent or more than 38,000 of the 40,000 winners in the October 28 barangay election.
Comelec records showed there are 42,028 barangays nationwide.
Chairman Sixto Brillantes Jr. however clarified that 1,109 barangays in Bohol provinces and 98 barangays in Zamboanga City are yet to hold elections. The voting in some areas in other regions was also postponed.
Regions 1, 3, 4-A, 4-B, 5 and 6 have proclaimed their winning barangay officials. ”We should be able to do some proclamation today and tomorrow, yan as of 8 a.m. which means meron pa siyang ongoing polls,” Brillantes told reporters on Wednesday.
As for the rescheduled elections in some areas in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM), the Comelec noted that the Board of Election Tellers (BETs) can still proclaim winners if the counting and/or canvassing of votes will fall on November 1 or 2.
“Ang target namin tapusin na lahat bukas (October 31). Hindi naman dapat tumagal yang bilangan kung hindi kakayanin siguro mag-suspend sila during holidays pero pwede sila magtuloy sa Saturday and Sunday November 2 and 3 kasi canvassing yan. Hindi ka dapat tumigil sa canvassing maski na holiday,” Brillantes said.
Meanwhile, the Comelec reiterated its call for barangays to give their P10,000 contributions for the additional funding for teachers who had served in the barangay elections.
Commissioner Grace Padaca said that teachers who served during the barangay polls will receive P2,500. The poll body will shoulder P2,000 but the P500 will have to be paid by barangays.
