Comelec puts up express lanes for first-time voters

Express lanes have been reserved for first-time voters who are signing up for the barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections on October 28.

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) on Saturday said first-time voters will be given priority in the registration together with the elderly, pregnant women and Persons with Disabilities (PWDs).

Comelec said majority of the registrants are voters applying for the transfer of their registration to other barangays, municipalities or cities.

It also said that clearances released by the Philippine National Police (PNP) are now unacceptable as proof of identity of the applicant.

“Some applicants secure PNP clearance solely for the purpose of having a valid document as proof of their identity and to have their applications for registration/transfer accepted,” the poll body said.

Registration applicants for the council elections must present any document from their current office, postal, student, senior citizen, SSS/GSIS, Integrated Bar of the Philippines’ identification cards, NBI clearance, driver’s license, passport, and Professional Regulation Commission license.

The registration period is until July 31.
