THE Commission on Elections (Comelec) will begin printing official ballots for the coming barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections on Sunday
Comelec Chairman Juan Andreas Bautista said the National Printing Office (NPO) in Quezon City will be printing 85 million ballots.
“It will take about 60 days to finish,” Bautista said in a text message.
He explained that the government-run NPO needs a longer printing time because more ballots are needed for the SK elections.
The poll chief said for the barangay elections in 2013, 50 million ballots had to be printed.
Ballots for barangay and SK elections are different from the ballots used for the presidential and national elections in May 9 this year because these were precinct specific and tailored for computerized elections.
The barangay and SK elections set for October 31, 2016 will be manual.
Comelec records showed that there are 3,095,187 applications for registration for the local polls.
Of the total number of registrants, 1,615,830 were aged 15 to 17 and 1,180,959 were 18 years old and above.
Another 205,971 applied for reactivation, 20,369 for change of name and 31,025 for change of entries.
The certified and final list of voters will be posted not later than September 16.
