The Commission on Elections (Comelec) warned would-be candidates for the upcoming barangay elections against campaigning before the campaign period, underlining that such could lead to their disqualification.
The Comelec is currently studying how to disqualify would-be candidates, who are campaigning early, spokesperson James Jimenez said over the weekend.
According to Jimenez, campaigning is only allowed during the designated campaign period.
The said period will start on October 18, 10 days before the barangay polls.
Jimenez underlined that early campaigning is an election violation that could lead to the disqualification of candidates.
Posting huge tarpaulins and posters in every barangay can be considered as premature campaigning, even if the intention to run is not stipulated in their posters, the Comelec stressed.
The campaign period is set to end on October 26.
