LEGAZPI CITY: The Commission on Elections in Albay warned politicians and their supporters here against violating election guidelines specifically on the posting of campaign materials outside the designated common poster areas.
Lawyer Romeo Serrano, provincial election supervisor in Albay, said that while the campaign period for provincial and local candidates is set on March 25 to May 7, local politicians and their supporters have already posted campaign materials outside the designated areas.
The common poster areas include parks, plazas, markets and barangay halls. Posting on the walls of buildings, on posts, or on existing public structures in active use like schools are not allowed.
“We’re unhappy with the early campaigning as local politicians are the most common violators. Candidates are putting up bigger posters more than the prescribed sizes,” Serrano said.
“We’re calling on local politicians and their supporters to toe the line or they will be dealt with accordingly,” he said.
The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) in Bicol also reminded candidates not to post campaign materials on trees.
Pinning of posters, tarpaulins and campaign materials on trees is prohibited under the commission guidelines as well as by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR).
