• Communist insurgency in Albay losing strength

LEGAZPI CITY: From being the hotbed of the communist insurgency in the past decades, Albay province has been declared by Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Chief Gen. Gregorio Catapang as a manageable conflict area in the Bicol Region, owing to the waning number of rebels in the area. “Albay is no longer the breeding ground of the New People’s Army like in the past decades owing to good leadership and development programs of Albay Gov. Joey Sarte Salceda,” Catapang said during the Heroes Day celebration held at the Bicol University here on Friday. Albay is the third province in the Bicol Region declared as a manageable conflict area. The other two provinces declared by the AFP chief as manageable conflict areas are Catanduanes, in December 2014, and Camarines Norte, in January 2015.
