Tourism gets big boost from May’s busy music scene
The Tourism Promotions Board intensified its Visit the Philippines Year 2015 campaign this May with live concerts and performances from the hottest local and international artists. Indeed, the musical vibrancy and fun-loving spirit of the Filipinos gave tourists more reasons why it is definitely more fun in the Philippines.
The month began on a high note as international pop stars VIXX, Backstreet Boys, Katy Perry, Owl City, and Peabo Bryson performed at major concert venues in Metro Manila. This week, Manila saw two concerts first from Boyzone that held its much-awaited concert on Tuesday, followed by Michael Bolton on Saturday.
The main attraction of the month of course was the biggest ever hip-hop event in the local music scene, via the MTV Music Evolution extravaganza at the Quirino Grandstand. As The Manila Times had reported and reviewed, thousands of hip-hop fans trooped to the historical venue for outstanding performances from Grammy award-winning group Naughty by Nature, Apl.de.ap, Gloc-9, Abra, YG and DJ Cash Money. Recorded live for global telecast in 160 countries, the concert showcased the evolution of hip-hop music through the years, and will show just how Filipinos love to party.
Reggae fans also jammed to the music of Bob Marley and other reggae artists at the Bob Marley Music Festival at Greenfield District, while those who love R&B, electronic and alternative music joined Robin Thicke, Tritonal and Filipino local bands, such as Pupil and Rivermaya, in the Dream Fields Music Festival at the Vista Concert Grounds.
Clubbers and party people were treated to electrifying night parties as international DJs R3hab, Knife Party, Cedric Gervais, JUSTICE, and Swanky Tunes came to perform in Manila’s hottest bars and nightclubs.
With such globally famous artists performing across the country, May was undeniably a superb month for partygoers and music lovers from all over the globe to visit the Philippines.
Now that’s an excellent wrap for summer 2015.
