Congress must pass a BBL that does not undermine our Republic

ALL kinds of powerful international organizations and countries have sent messages to us Filipinos warning us that we must not FAIL to pass the Bangsamoro Basic Law.

The messages started pouring in when, as a result of the massacre by Moro Islamic Liberation Front armies of our PNP-SAF commandos who were on a law-enforcement mission to arrest internationally wanted terrorists, outraged congressmen and senators announced the withdrawal of their support for the passage of the Bangsamoro Basic Law.

The only foreign voice that said anything worthwhile to us Filipinos about the Mindanao peace process has been that of Pope Francis. All the words from abroad have been motherhood statements that reveal these foreign leaders’ ignorance of the complexities of the proposed move to create a new substate vested with autonomy, powers and a new form of governing in Mindanao that no other local government unit in our Republic possesses.

The words of the Holy Father were spoken more than a week before the Mamasapano massacre took place. He spoke these words in Malacañang, after BS Aquino gave his infamous welcome speech that was, instead, an unhappy and illwill-filled narrative of his personal and his family’s sufferings under the Marcos regime and a blistering and untruthful attack against the Catholic bishops. Aquino attacked the CBCP for not being supportive of him (a lie) and for being critical of his governance while (a big lie!) they all praised the Arroyo Administration.

Pope Francis said this about the Mindanao peace process. “I am confident that the praiseworthy efforts to promote dialogue and cooperation between the followers of the different religions will prove fruitful in the pursuit of this noble goal.

“In a particular way, I express my trust that the progress made in bringing peace to the south of the country will result in just solutions in accord with the nation’s founding principles and respectful of the inalienable rights of all, including the indigenous peoples and religious minorities.”

He alone, of the foreigners adding their two-cents’ worth to the difficult discussions on the Bangsamoro Basic Law, have seen it fit to say that the solutions to the problem of establishing peace in Mindanao must “accord with our nation’s founding principles.” This means there must not be any violation of our written Constitution and of our accumulated traditions and aspirations as a democratic republic. He is mindful that very many in our population in Mindanao hold Christian beliefs and folkways and some others, are Lumads, many of whom are animists and nature-worshipers.

The BBL cannot be the Palace and MILF ones
This is why the BBL that must be passed by Congress cannot be exactly the ones that the leadership of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front, supported treasonously by B.S. Aquino and his people, wants. For both contain serious violations of the Constitution. They work against the mores of the majority of Filipinos.

It was nice and heartwarming, at the Senate hearing on Thursday, to hear MILF Peace Panel Chairman Mohagher Iqbal promise that he and his fellow MILF leaders are willing to accept that the Bangsamoro autonomous region or substate will continue to be part of the Republic of the Philippines. But that promise is not what we hear from MILF Central Committee Chairman Murad and other MILF stalwarts.

The BBL, if it will contain provisions insisting on—and not abjuring—the anti-Philippine Republic and unconstitutional statements and provisions of the Comprehensive Agreement on Bangsamoro and the Framework Agreement—which BS Aquino’s peace negotiators have signed with their MILF counterparts to the applause of the Foreign Powers and Malaysia—would be a dagger aimed at the heart of the Filipino nation.

It cannot be passed.

This means the MILF Central Committee would have to do as it has warned—that there will be war if it is a “watered down BBL” that comes out of Congress.

The MILF allies in our Congress, in the Aquino Administration and the Peace Panel have also given this warning to us Filipinos.

The management of our country’s affairs must swiftly be taken away from the hands of the traitors now in power—if we do not want our Republic to suffer the fate of the 44 Fallen Heroes of Mamasapano.

  1. No to bbl…treason will committed by who ever support bbl….mr president Your are giving the property of the republic to the terrorist thats a big shame mr president. wake up majority of your people doesn support your bbl, do not commit treason against your people.

  2. there is no need for BBL because there is already ARMM. Just maintain the ARMM. besides, the ARMM does not violate the constitution while the BBL has many provisions that violates the constitution. take it or leave it. if the MILF turns into war then so be it. they are terrorists anyway trying to legitimize.

  3. We should find a real leader who is willing to protect the inalienable rights of all people, Moros, Christians/Lumads alike in that part of Mindanao. An agreement that is intended to satisfy a favored group is unquestionably unconstitutional. Let us hope this leadership will have the resolve to face and temper those threats with reason. And if reason would not suffice, then with force against the threat of force by the other side.

  4. Anywhere or the mindanao in particular, there’s no need for a BBL, people want peace should learn how to understand other people and cancel the practice of greediness. Love and understanding is the solution if people don’t understand about it, educate them and the elders should set as an example. What happen people always think of peace but go to war so there’s peace after ceasefire. The happening in Mamapasano, Maguindanao people really don’t want peace because both camps considered it as a mis-encounter, after the discovery of mis-encounter everybody should move fast to save the victims so they will not die, make first aid and bring the victims to hospital but instead heavy weapons was used to finished the injured. So it is a move to kill their supposed friends. Then with the death of the 44 PNP/SAF, people speaks to finished or complete the peace talk.

  5. How ironic that because they chose to save BBL, the army didn’t save the SAF commandos. But now, the Fallen44 have instead save the Republic from giving away Mindanao to these terrorists.

  6. I’m appealing to our PNP and AFP (minus catapang) that if they are really our tagapagligtas and our hero… Pls tAke over our present goverment and preside until 2016 election with the help of priest… Make the next election a fair field for everybody…. Don’t let anyone use taxpayer money as a campaign fund and prohibit all the present senators and congressmen run for any position in the goverment … Sobra nang damage ang ginawa nila sa ating bansa!

  7. In short, pass any peace bill that is not unconstitutional and provide lasting peace with all Muslims, not Milf alone, MNLF alone, Biff alone, Abu Sayaf alone or other Muslim factions alone. Pass a peace bill which is not a sell out just like this one authored by PNoy, written by Marvic Leonen and defended by Deles and Ferrer.

Dear BBL Framers … The Fallen 44 had offered their very valuable share of eventually opening the country’s eyes to what you have been blindingly doing. Time now to set back, rethink, revise the said BBL or it will you and the rest of your children’s children will condemn you for what you are to do!!!

I don’t understand why the government is making peace with the MILF, surrendering the constitution to the revolutionary people as they said it, instead of the MILF to make peace with the Republic of the Philippines and the MILF has to respect our constitution and laws. No part of the Philippines shall be given to the moros and established their own Bangsamoro government, period. If the moros want to establish their own government, then the Philippines should change the system of government to Federal System, then they can be given their own government but they cannot have their own army & police. They will be still under the laws of the Federal government of the Philippines. These moros will be place in a reservations like the American Indians in the United States. This is the way to do it, no BBL, if not the Filipino people will be sorry later and they can no longer correct it. Only a piece of advice and not an order sir.

  10. Congress and Aquino will impose BBL at all costs. There is great money, and great land to gain (for beneficiaries). Sabah was lost, Mindanao could be next. The Philippines needs heroes now.

  11. We really need a Leader at this point to confront and stop Aquino from selling out our country to the threatening rebels MILF/BIFF before it’s too late. Except for the Manila Times, Sen Santiago, Mayor Estrada and Sen Cayetano, most people have no idea that the provisions of BBL will give complete sovereignty of Mindanao to these radical rebels. When that happens, that is the start of the destruction of the Philippines. We need the full force of the citizenry to stop these traitors – Aquino and his cohorts.

    • if congress pass the bbl, then the other regions firstly the cebuano speaking regions will want to have this kind of autonomy and probably the cordilleras would want to amend the autonomy granted to them by law. if this happens, what will happen to the phil.? fedaralism anyone????

  12. Although The Manila Times is not “some corrupt politicians” is your editorial cartoon today attacking the advocacy of your newspaper for the truth–which will surely condemn BS Aquino-? Is your editorial cartoonist against all the P1 headlines and editorials you have been publishing? Is he, like BS Aquino himself, an agent of the Foreign Powers and of Malaysia?

  13. This the situation we are in today. The PCOS-produced President BS Aquino is the agent of Foreign Powers and Malaysia, which wants to finally dismember the Republic of the Philippines.
And the leaders of our Catholic Church, the leaders of our business and industrial organizations, and the civil society groups–except those allied with the Natioal Democratic Front–are all members or afraid of the Yellow Army.

Wouldn’t it be interesting for some writer to look into those messages pouring in from outside the country? Names and locations? Isn’t it coincidental that that same gist of the messages is the same threat coming from the belligerent MILF? One plus (n=0) is still one in this case? Power grab plus land grab equals peace? More like submission (islam in arabic) == R.I.P. != NO RPH???

  15. This is a very well thought of, well argued and very well written editorial.

Who can contest the value of the following statement: The BBL, if it will contain provisions insisting on—and not abjuring—the anti-Philippine Republic and unconstitutional statements and provisions of the Comprehensive Agreement on Bangsamoro and the Framework Agreement—which BS Aquino’s peace negotiators have signed with their MILF counterparts to the applause of the Foreign Powers and Malaysia—would be a dagger aimed at the heart of the Filipino nation……It cannot be passed.

Of course, the BBL must not be passed at all if we still believe that we are a self-respecting people worthy of our independence and sovereignty. Let the other nations dictate. We must think for ourselves. Because nobody else will.
